Trekking in the Tatras

Where Slovakia meets Poland

Postcards from the Yucatan

Mexico 2004: the old jetty on Holbox, where the airfield is marked with conch shells and a couple of hundred people scatter themselves over 15 miles

Messing about on the river

Alarm Clock rapid gets the better of us. Tulley River, FNQ, Australia, 2000.

Trekking in the Tatras

Where Slovakia meets Poland; Postcards from trekking the ice-trails in the Tatra Mountains National Park May 2005.

Armies of nuns, mountains of snow, mountains of cakes, churches, cathedrals, palaces, a conspiracy to make Europe larger, elected kings, the curse of Stanislaw, dragon’s dens, rivers, ice and adventures on Soviet transport; Poland has it all.

Postcards from the Yucatan

A month rambling around the tiny islands and Mayan towns of Mexico’s jungle province.

Trekking through jungle to explore flooded caves, diving with Whale Sharks alone in the Gulf of Mexico, sea breezes rolling off the sands through cabanas on the beach, drifting down Mayan canals then trucking down the hummingbird highway, watching the sun set with a cool cerveza and taking it easy.

White water; white knuckles

Learning to skipper a large tyre inner tube didn’t seem that hard at first.

The raft rolls up the side of a boulder larger than the coach that brought us out here. We stood no chance. Everything happens faster than we can think and as the bow flips we’re all thrown backwards into the spray. Upper section of a Grade Four rapid. Our first of the day and we’re already in the water... and under it.
